Introduction

Transformer is a very vital device in all the industries and it is one of the most important and expensive device in the power industries.
Any failure in this component may lead to serve consequence as to economic and safety aspect.
But now a day when the industries are running 24×7,there is a chance of heating down the transformer, due to increase in oil temperature used in the transformer .
We cannot afford this development, because this leads to loss of money and time.  

REQUIREMENT OF OIL TEMPERATURE MONITORING

PROTECTS THE TRANSFORMER FROM DAMAGE.
LIFETIME OF TRANSFORMER CAN BE INCREASED.
SINCE OIL IS PRESENT IN THE TRANSFORMER THERE IS A NECESSITY TO DEVELOP A SYSTEM WHICH CAN
SENSE THE TEMPERATURE OF OIL INSIDE THE TRANSFORMER.
AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH ON THE CIRCUIT BREAKER IF TEMP EXCEEDS LIMIT.
ALERT THE ELECTRICITY DEPTT THROUGH SMS.

Temperature Sensor(LM35)

These sensors use a solid-state technique to determine the temperature.
The LM35 series are precision integrated-circuit temperature sensors, whose output voltage is linearly proportional to the Celsius (centigrade) temperature.
LM35 does not require any external calibration.
The LM35’s low output impedance, linear output, and precise inherent calibration make interfacing to readout.
It can be used with single power supplies.

Importance of LM35 sensor

The sensor circuitry is sealed and not subjected to oxidation, etc.
 You can measure temperature more accurately than using a thermostat.
The LM35 generate a higher output voltage than thermocouple and may not require the output voltage be amplified.
Rated for full -55˚ to +150˚C range.
Operates from 4 to 30 volts.
Low cost due to wafer-level trimming.

CONCLUSION

This project has presented a design of a system based on microcontroller that is used to monitor and control the temperature of a distribution transformer.
The proposed system which has been designed to monitor the transformer’s essential parameters continuously monitors the parameters throughout its operation.
If the microcontroller recognizes any increase in the level of temperature values the control relay will break the circuit in order to prevent it from further damages.

This project aims to control oil temperature a few transformers continuously and protects them from overheating. Since transformers are vital elements of electric transmission and distribution infrastructure, they need to be checked to prevent possible errors. Failure in a transformer can easily cost several million dollars to repair or replace, as well as lead to loss of customer service and revenue until the symptom does not find and fix.

In transformers need to control the temperature of the oil is very necessary. The inclusion of transformers off when temperature exceeds its maximum operating temperature protects the transformer from damage, as well as the lifetime of the transformers can also be increased. As the oil is present in the transformer is the need to develop a system that can sense the temperature of the oil inside the transformer and circuit breaker switches on automatically when the temperature exceeds the limit, as well as the Department of energy reports via SMS to predefined numbers and also alerts via the LCD display. Oil temperature of several transformers can be controlled continuously on the LCD in the system.

We have developed this project, which is relatively inexpensive to measure the temperature of the temperature is read using the ADC (analog-to-digital converter) module of the microcontroller unit. The ADC is processed and converted to the actual temperature reading using a microcontroller.

The microcontroller is provided with instructions, such as maximum temperature threshold, after which the transformer must be disconnected and so the microcontroller will dynamically determine the status of the transformer should be removed depending on the temperature of inlet temperature sensor controller display temperature oil on LCD display for us.
The objectives of the project include:
1. Continuous oil temperature reading multiple transformers.
2. on the basis of GSM SMS alerts.
3. LCD displays based on visual warnings and constant control.
4. schedule for industrial needs
The project gives us exposure to:
1. initialize the ADC module of the microcontroller.
2. characteristics of the temperature sensor.
3. Embedded C programming.
4. development of the printed circuit board.
5. Serial communication protocols.
6. GSM modem.
7. LCD interfacing with microcontroller.
